Chartwell, (NT), 2m south of Westerham. Open April to end October, Tuesday to Sunday & Bank Holiday Mondays 11am-5.30pm. Last admission 4.30pm. March & November House only, Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday 11am-4.30pm. Last admission 4pm. Closed Good Friday and Tuesday following Bank Holiday. Admission charge; dogs on leads in grounds only; licensed self-service restaurant.
Owing to large number visiting Chartwell, entry to the house is by timed ticket; the waiting time may be spent in the garden, but visitors are warned that occasionally in summer the delay in gaining admission to the house is considerable.
Disabled parking about 250 yards from house: pathway between is steep and has several flights of steps. Visitors who cannot climb steps are advised to telephone in advance to see if arrangements can be made to park in front of house. Alternatively, companions of severely disabled people should park in main car park and ask for advice at visitor centre. House: ground floor easily accessible; small lift 32" square, accessible via two steps, and originally installed for Sir Winston Churchill.
