A mostly mountaineering area with the Langdale Pikes marking the head of Langdale and a wonderful vantage point to watch the climbers as they push there way up is behind the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel. An easy walk is by the side of the hotel to the Dungeon Ghyll waterfalls leading to Stickle Tarn. Over this circular mountain lake towers the precipitous 2288 Pavey Ark, an impressive and memorable sight.From Stickle Tarn the footpath continues west to the main part of the Langdale Pikes crowned by the magnificent 2323ft Harrison Stickle. Both these peaks can be covered quite easily during a single day walk.
