URPoint Details
An attractive village once famous for its leather industry and its Benedictine Abbey dates from 987 to 1539.
All that remains is the gatehouse which has a fine oriel window and a guest house.
The Church of St Mary the Virgin is mainly 15th century, the chancel is older and the tall tower dates from 1500. The interior is beautiful, with light and space with a stone screen, Jacobean pulpit and 14th century wall paintings. The east window is superb with 15th century glass.
