Dating back to Saxon times the village was mainly agriculture and still has three pubs, the ‘Crown’ on Beccles Rd, the ‘Bell Inn’ and the ‘Old Red House’ in The Street.
Carlton Hall was rebuilt in 1740 after a disastrous fire in 1736.
