Cardinal John Henry Newman DD, CO was born on the 21 February 1801 in The City district of London.

Also referred to as Cardinal Newman and Blessed John Henry Newman, he was an important figure in the religious history of England in the 19th century. He converted from the Anglican faith to the Roman Catholic Church on 9 October 1845, and was a noted writer and creator of hymns.
