URPoint Details
It is said that beneath the waters of Cardigan Bay lies a lost Atlantis.
The seas were apparently kept from the Bay by a great embankment, which was put in the care of Siethenyn ap Siethenyn Sardi 'one of Wales' greatest drunkards. He let the wall decay, and eventually it broke down altogether, destroying, so legend has it, 16 fortified towns.
The plateau which meets the sea in a series of high cliffs is cut by narrow, wooded river valleys, such as the Teifi valley at Cenarth.
The coastline is pierced at intervals by small, steep-sided river valleys which shelter fishing villages like Llangranog, where a small beach has formed at the river mouth.
