Just off the road leading southwest from the village is the stone believed to have been raised in memory of a descendant of the famous British chieftain Caractacus who unsuccessfully fought against the Roman invasion.

The battered inscription reads ‘Cargaci Nepus’ meaning ‘descendant of Caractacus, and has been dated from between the 5th and 7th centuries.
