URPoint Details
A pleasant village, on the River Esk, at the southern end of Eskdale with an old coaching inn.
The river is joined near the Liddel Moat, by the Liddel Water crossing the valley of Liddesdale.
The Esk flowing to the Solway Firth was once the boundary between England and Scotland and the tract between the Esk and the Sark became known as ‘debatable land’ until 1552, when the Scots Dyke was built to form a new boundary.
