Campbeltown (Ceann Loch Chille Chiaran)
A charming fishing town situated around the harbour on Campbeltown Loch, was well known for its many distilleries and herring boats in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The Isle of Davaar at the mouth of the loch can be reached by a causeway when the tide is low and has a cave with a remarkable Crucifixion painting. Davaar also has a lighthouse which can still be visited and has ecclesiastical associations with St Barr.
This is the only town on the Kintyre peninsula with a charter dating back to Robert the Bruce and later Stuart kings granted a burgh to the Argyll Campbells in 1706.
