The TV series Dr Findlay’s Casebook was filmed here as ‘Tannochbrae’ and offers excellent golf, good salmon and trout fishing and a perfect base for touring the Trossachs and Loch Katrine.
The town is mainly 18th century and lies at the junction of the rivers Teith and Lemy, and one of its main landmarks a flagpole stands in Ancaster Square where apparently Kessog a missionary from Ireland preached beside the river over fourteen centuries ago.
There are several pleasant walks from Callander including two that lead to Callander Crags half a mile to the north which rises 1000 feet, and one to the waterfall of Bracklinn just over one mile northeast.
Ben Ledi at 2875 feet and 3 miles northwest on the edge of the Trossachs offers rocky climbs for mountaineers.
