One of the better known passes in Scotland, crossing the lower or eastern Grampians linking Banchory with Fettercairn but liable to be blocked by snow in winter.

The summit of the pass stands at 1,475ft and some of the gradients can be as much as I in 5 and on the descent 1 in 6.

To the west is Mount Battock rising to 2,555ft and to the north Clachnaben at 1,944ft.

The Pass has been associated with many famous travellers including Macbeth and Edward I.

To the north over the bridge of the Dye Water the delightful Glen Dye dating from 1680 and one of the earliest bridges in this part of Scotland.
