URPoint Details

Joint tickets to the Museum available. Toilets disabled car parking adjacent to the baths and amphitheatre.

The baths are accessible to all, however those with stick and crutches should take care as the floor is slatted. The amphitheatre is viewable from the top, and the bottom can be reached by means of a grassy slope.
Caerleon is the most varied and fascinating Roman site in Britain. The headquarters from AD75 of the Second Augustan Legion, this 50 acre fortress once housed over 5,000 elite Roman infantry and still provides remarkable insights into their lives. Near its centre stands the Fortress Baths, a giant leisure complex. More violent entertainments were available in the well-preserved amphitheatre, an arena seating 6,000 spectators. The soldiers built the arena themselves and whose everyday activities are recalled in a nearby row of barrack blocks and there is an amazing array of Roman finds - from weapons to gemstones - in the Legionary Museum.
