Landscaped gardens laid out in 1871 by Edward Milner of Sydenham, an assistant of Paxton, and the Octagon Concert Hall was added in 1875, providing a most elegant Victorian setting for passing time while taking the waters. Over 100 years later the 23 acre gardens still provide lovely walks, miniature railway running alongside a lake with ducks, crazy golf and putting greens, children's play area and swimming pool filled with warm spa water. There are restaurants, bars and lounges, as well as various halls where you can see anything from antiques or book fairs to band concerts. The River Wye runs through the Gardens, goes underground beneath The Crescent and re-emerges in Ashwood Park at the far end of Spring Gardens. The Conservatory at the east end of the Gardens, leading off the Pavilion has been lovingly restored to maintain its Victorian feel.
