A beautiful Spa town situated in the centre of the Peak District, with many wonderful historic buildings. Next to the Pump Room is the drinking fountain where the public may sample the warm, blue water. The actual source of all the spa water is in the former Natural Mineral baths building opposite, now the Tourist Information Centre.
The Old Hall Hotel, originally built in 1570 and rebuilt in 1670, is where Mary Queen of Scots, stayed on her visits.

Set in the magnificent hills of the High Peaks, this grand Edwardian theatre completed in 1905, is the last building and crowning glory of the Gardens complex. It was designed by the eminent theatre artist Frank Matcham with opulent decoration and marble everywhere. It seats almost 1,000 people in a magnificently decorative auditorium and has a large proscenium-arch stage and orchestra pit. The much acclaimed Buxton International Festival of Music and the Arts, is held here every July.
