URPoint Details
Bushey has grown over time from a small village to a rambling commuter centre for London. There are still some fine buildings to be seen including Bushey Hall, a large Victorian brick and stone mansion.
The Church of St James in the High Street although enlarged still retains some interesting old features. Built of flint it has a high 15th century nave and west tower with a stair-turret. The chancel is 13th century and the windows to the north and south are original. An unusual feature is the tympanum with the royal arms of Queen Anne rests on a large beam and divides the nave from the chancel. The Jacobean pulpit has strapwork motifs and the original sounding board above.
