Both Saxons and Normans have left their mark in this village in the water meadows of the Arun.
A secluded collection of flint and brick cottages, some hidden behind hedges and flint walls, stands at the end of a 3 mile long lane which winds north from Arundel to Worthing road.
The church of St Mary dates from the 12th and 13th century and is built mainly of flint, with some Roman tiles and part of a Roman pavement was uncovered in the north transept.
The impressive and spacious interior is white and airy, with elaborate carved pillars.
