The town although is much earlier than the 19th century, it was redesigned with a spa as a focal point but due to the waters being unpleasant the town with its seven miles of sand beaches became a holiday resort.
Stert Island off the coast is a birdwatcher’s paradise where oystercatchers, shelduck, gulls and other birds nest.
