The Grade II* listed church has historic interests dating back to a tribal settlement in the first century AD. A church was first built on the site in the 11th century and the Purbeck marble font, which is Norman. The north porch is 16th century, and there is a stone commemorating the Rev Alexander Scott who was the chaplain on Nelson’s ship the "Victory". Inside the church there is a coat of arms of the Fitzwalter family and a stained-glass window to the memory of a rich oyster merchant. Also of note are the Stations of the Cross and the remarkable leaning pillars.
