Often referred to as 'The Gateway to the Cotswolds, it was the first Cotswold town, before 1107, to be granted a charter. An elegant and historic stone town, with a wealth of Tudor, Georgian houses and buildings leading down to the River Windrush. Lining the streets are many antique shops and pubs, including the 'Bear Inn' is 15th century, the 'Crown Inn' and 'Bull Inn' are 16th century.
Burford Priory was rebuilt in 1808 and the Bridge built in the early 1300's.
The local stone quarried here was used to rebuild St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
