A pleasant village with associations to Prince Charles Edward set where Biggar Water and the Broughton Burn meet then flow into the River Tweed.
Beside the old ruined church in the churchyard is a restored vault thought to be the remains of a cell founded in the 7th century by St Llolan a Pictish saint.
Broughton Place was the former home of Murray of Broughton who was secretary to Prince Charles Edward in 1745, later captured after turning King’s Evidence and died in England.
