Car park; shop; licensed self-service restaurant; adventure playground; ranger service; display centre and dog walk. Disabled car parking at castle, also limited disabled parking at ranger display centre. Main rooms on first floor up broad staircase with wheelchair carrier old kitchen may be reached by chairlift. Gardens are accessible, on firm paths but some are steep handrails in the walled garden on the flight of steps. Park one woodland trail has been specially designed for wheelchair access the ranger display centre is also wheelchair accessible.
The car ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick is equipped with a lift to transport wheelchair users from the car deck to the upper deck.
The site of this ancient seat of the Dukes of Hamilton was a fortress even in Viking times.
The 13th century fortified tower was developed in the 16th century and extended by Cromwell in the 17th century.
Princess Marie of Baden, 11th Duchess of Hamilton laid the foundation stone for the main Victorian extension in 1844.
Her granddaughter, Lady Mary Louise, 6th Duchess of Montrose, lived in the castle until 1957.
