URPoint Details
On the south eastern edge of the Borough is the parish of Brockworth set at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment which rises 800ft above sea level in Coopers Hill.
There is also a prehistoric earthwork on the top of the hill and the site of a Roman Villa on the slope, along with a Nature Trail through the woodlands.
At the foot of the hill is Brockworth itself, which adjoins the City of Gloucester. It contains one of the largest industrial estates within the Borough, originally used as an airfield and where the famous Gloster Gladiator, the Meteor and the mighty 1950\'s Javelin Interceptor aircraft were built. The first allied jet aircraft, the Gloster E28/39, first left the ground here powered by Sir Frank Whittle's jet engine.
On the edge of the village is Brockworth Court, the local Manor House, with well-preserved 16th-century half-timber work. The adjacent St George's Church contains Norman architecture.
