Broadwell - Church of St Peter & St Paul
Dead Man's Lane, Broadwell GL7 3QT, England
URPoint Details
Church of St Peter & St Paul is 12th century in origin, originally built with a tower. The fine spire was added when the church was re-consecrated in 1260.
Note the shortness of the nave compared to the length of the choir. The south doorway, with its beautiful carvings, is especially worthy of attention.
An unusual feature is a narrow recess in the south-west angle of the north chapel (probably used to keep banner poles and shafts of the processional cross). Dead Man's Lane was the road used for carrying the corpses for burial in the churchyard.
