Situated in the beautiful Vale of Yarrow is an old drovers track ‘the Minch’, going up over the hills towards Traquair.
To the southeast is Newark Castle, an impressive 15th century ruin, the retreat of the widow Anne, Duchess of Buccleuch and was visited by both Scott and Wordsworth.
On the opposite side of the river is Mungo Park’s birthplace a small cottage at Foulshiels where the explorer was born in 1771.
