The old village climbs the hill and the fishing port form what is known today as Brixham.
A stone on the quayside commemorates the landing in 1688 of William of Orange.
The pier was built between 1799 and 1804, although most of the town is Victorian there are still some reminders of the village’s past with Stone Age to Roman times and the Windmill Hill cave was discovered in 1858.
Henry Lyte who wrote the hymn ‘Abide with me’ was the first vicar of All Saints church.
