URPoint Details
St John the Baptist’s Church, (Churches Conservation Trust) is the survivor of four Bristol churches built on the city wall in the 12th century and its picturesque tower and spire surmount the old North Gate.
Above an earlier 14th century vaulted crypt the present Perpendicular church was founded by Walter Frampton (d 1388) whose tomb and fine effigy are in the north wall of the chancel. The small but impressively tall aisles interior has interesting and lovely fittings mostly 17th century.
