URPoint Details

There are many places of interest to visit in Bristol including the delightful area known as Christmas Steps dating from 1669 and is an ancient laneway of antique shops and bookshops and at the top is the little 15th century Chapel of The Three Kings of Cologne which is only 18ft by 22ft.

Railway brought fame to Bristol as did Isambard Kingdom Brunel who redesigned the docks in 1830, and in 1841 completed the Great Western Railway’s line from London.
He also designed Temple Mead Station.

Outside the Corn Exchange is a flat topped pillar which was used by merchants when they banged on the top to settle a deal, hence the saying ‘paying on the nail’.

The Cabot Tower, erected in 1897 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Cabot’s discovery of America.

St John’s, the only remaining city gate, surmounted by St John the Baptist’s Church.
