The old and the new roads to Glencoe diverge here and where the new road built in 1935 goes northwards round the eastern side of Loch Tulla, this way avoids the climb up over the Black Mount which the old road had to take.
Ben Dorian at 3,524ft dominates the surrounding countryside and has steep, furrowed slopes to the summit.
Farther to the north on the east side of the loch in the Drum Alban ridge is Ben Achallader rising to 3,404ft with its ruined castle in Glen Tulla below it.
