With the 220ft Wallace Monument some 2 miles southeast commemorating Sir William Wallace, the martyr of Scotland’s Independence and a mainly Victorian spa, makes for a delightful base for travelling the rest of a very historic area.
Situated on the Allan Water which joins with the Forth to the south of town and standing in a wooded setting at the foot of the Ochil hills.
To the east lies Dumyat at 1,375 a shapely hill offering lovely and rewarding views.
To the northwest is the great estate of Keir, formerly the family seat of the Stirling family, with its fine mansion and beautiful park and gardens.
