Bretforton

Bretforton , England

URPoint Details

Hidden away in the Vale of Evesham is the picturesque black and white and stone built village clustered around the village green. Documented evidence goes back to a Saxon deed dated 714 and they called it Brotfortun meaning ‘the ford with planks’.
The Church of St Leonard dates to about the 13th century and like the rest of the village was the property of Evesham Abbey until Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries in the 1530s and has some really interesting carvings.
Breforton Hall is an example of Strawberry Gothic architecture.
Former home of C H Gardiner, who based his classic ‘Your Village and Mine’ on this Vale village.
