The village is divided and at one end of the long Street the houses cluster round the pump which stands at the centre of the crossroads.
At the other end is the village green where some of the cottages are traditional Suffolk pink near the pond.
The writer and translator Edward Fitzgerald was born in Bredfield House 31 March 1809, and died at Boulge on 4 June 1883.
