The delightful Thameside village of Bray is home for many of the rich and famous including well-known television and radio personalities. The beauty of the village is in the maturity of its houses and period cottages, although its attraction for visitors must be its church, restaurants and inns. Perhaps the most famous of restaurants is the Waterside Inn, owned and operated by the Roux Brothers which is patronised by many famous personalities.
The name of Bray is irretrievably linked with that of Simon Alwyn the turncoat Vicar of Bray, who was said to have changed politics to retain his living. Just outside the village is Bray Studios where the Hammer House of Horror movies were made and where today, many famous musicians and bands such as Status Quo, Phil Collins and Elton John make recordings.
The Georgian mansion house has long been a location for creative inspiration having been used in earlier times by Pope, Addison and Dryden. Chapel of St Mary, is reached by a leafy lane from the main street. The entrance to the church is through a timber-framed gatehouse.
