With the Norman Conquest came the St Clare family, who added their name to the village, and their moated manor house St Clare Hall dates from the 13th century.
The original dedication of St All Saints church lapsed during the Reformation and on reopening was then dedicated to St Clare because of the St Clare family.
Bradfield Woods, once belonged to the Abbey and are well known for rare flora, fauna and nightingales.
