URPoint Details
In 1949, the town and the surrounding area was designated as one of the eight New Towns to be built within a 30 mile radius of London. The name Bracknell, at first spelt 'Braccen Heal', appeared in a 10th century Saxon document and is thought to have meant a piece of land belonging to 'Bracca'. Set in heathlands, it is an excellent centre for golf and walking. South Hill Park, an 18th century mansion, houses an art centre.
