The country seat, of the Marquess of Lansdown lies in 1000 acres of magnificent parkland and woods.
In the 19th century, the 3rd Marquess of Lansdown erected a column to commemorate one of his ancestors. It soars 125ft above Cherhill, an attractive village about 2½ miles east of Calne.
The gardens were laid out by Capability Brown in 1763 and though the grounds are private you can still walk the main drives of the estate.
