For many generations Bowhill has been the Border home of the Scott of Buccleuch.
Inside the house begun in 1812 there is an outstanding collection of pictures including works by Van Dyke, Gainsborough Canaletto, Guardi, Claude Lorraine, and Raeburn.
There is also a collection of portrait miniatures, porcelain and furniture much of which was made in the famous workshop of Andre Boulle in Paris.
