URPoint Details
Situated by the River Ure with a fine old bridge marking the meeting of the West and North Ridings.
The town has been inhabited for centuries, with the first of them leaving three massive stone monoliths dating from 2000-1500BC. The largest stone is 30ft high. These standing stones of millstone grit, known as the Devil’s Arrows are a puzzling legacy from prehistoric man.
