URPoint Details
There is so much history around here starting with hut circles, and Stone Age burial cairns and a vitrified fort. The bridge replaces one that Telford built and spans the channel connecting the Inner Dornoch Firth with the Kyle of Sutherland. Before its construction the Meikle Ferry disaster occurred in 1809 when 99 lives were lost. Strath Carron to the west and Strath Oykell to the northeast are two picturesque glens. Skibo Castle built for Andrew Carnegie is situated just to the south of the Bonar Bridge to Dornoch road.
