The Riding School and Terrace Range are accessible for the disabled but, the 'Little Castle' is not recommended for wheelchairs and people with limited mobility. Wheelchair access to grounds only. Good toilet facilities including baby changing room, although these are not ideal for the disabled. Wheelchairs available.
Built on the foundations of an original 12th century Norman Castle, principally by William Cavendish, the grandson of the infamous 'Bess of Hardwick'. What a site for a Castle! But what you see today isn't a castle - it's a 17th century folly. There's nothing else like it in Britain. The Castle looks back to a medieval age in celebration of romanticism and chivalry, through its architecture and elaborate inner decoration.

Adjoining the Little Castle are the Cavendish apartments and the Terrace range, the later being a banqueting area in which Charles I would have enjoyed the sights and sounds of the masque Love's Welcome to Bolsover performed in his honour in 1634 at an estimated cost of 15000pounds.
