The town once a Saxon village, then a medieval fishing hamlet and since 1790 has become a popular holiday destination, the royals were regular visitors here and it was then that the ‘regis’ was added.
There are many fine houses from Regency to Georgian and Victorian and five miles of flat sandy beaches make this one of the most popular of seaside resorts.
