URPoint Details
The name derives from the French missionary turned soldier whose battle cry was ‘Alleluia’ some 1500 years ago.
The present church dates from the 13th century. Originally there was a wooden spire, this was replaced by the present stone tower in 1841, and six bells were installed at the expense of the Reverend William Oliver who was rector from 1838 to 1899.
Because the tower is not high enough to accommodate the bells, they are rung from the porch, the congregation having to step around the bellringers very carefully.
