Blunham

Blunham , England

URPoint Details

Apparently there are more than 20 ways of spelling Blunham.
The second part of the name ‘ham’ is easily explained, as it is a Saxon word meaning a settlement. The first part has long been recognised as a personal name, and it was probably Bluwa who planted his ’ham’ here on the banks of the River Ivel.

The manor came into the hands of the Grey family in 1389, and it is not surprising that they should have left their mark on the village since they continued as landlords until the beginning of the last century. There are memorials to them in the church.
