URPoint Details
The 14th century Our Lady of Bloxham Church is one of grandeur on a hill above the village, with a 14th century spire of awesome slenderness. The tower is distinguished by angle buttresses set diagonally. The west doorway is elaborately decorated and on it a Last Judgement scene features in relief. 14th century corbels outside the north aisle include fabulous beats and the north aisle west window has the rare and striking feature of figures carved in the tracery, as in the Jesse window in the church at Dorchester. The south chapel is beautiful, its great windows giving the effect of a screen of glass. Note the star in the head of the west window of the early 14th century south aisle. The east window has stained glass by William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones of angels and saints, the heavenly Jerusalem looking like a cross between a medieval and Renaissance city above, and bizarre clouds by Phillip Webb in between. The 15th century rood screen has original painted figures at the base.
