Blowing Stone - Kingston Lisle

Kingston Lisle , England

URPoint Details

The stone was brought down from White Horse Hill and is about 3ft high and made of red sarsen.

In Tom Brown's Schooldays, the stone is described as being perforated by  'two or three queer rat holes'. If blown correctly they produce an eerie sound.

It is said that King Alfred summoned his armies in this way.
