Bletchingley - Church of St Mary the Virgin
High St, Bletchingley RH1 4PD, England
URPoint Details
The sandstone Church of St Mary looks out over open countryside to the North Downs. Inside is a small window opening onto a hermit’s cell, possibly that of Roger the Hermit, who was recorded as being here in the 13th century.
Medieval gargoyles adorn the nave and the south aisle, and the 16th century brass on the floor of the tower is dedicated to Thomas Warde, a tanner and his wife.
