A model stone built village laid out by the Crewe Trustees who built houses for the lead miners.
The houses and cottages are built in an l-shape and in the middle of the green is a memorial to Queen Victoria.
The 13th century church incorporates the remains of a 12th century abbey.
John Wesley, in 1747, preached in the churchyard in which stands an old cross.
