Blackburn

Its history goes back more than 1,000 years, but it really came to prominence in the Industrial Revolution.
The town's prosperity is shown in some fine Victorian buildings and an imposing cathedral.
James Hargreaves was born near here about 1720, and invented a carding machine in 1760 and the Spinning Jenny in 1764.
