URPoint Details
Black Loch is a freshwater loch, named from its dark waters, situated between Cumnock and New Cumnock lying in a glacial Kettle Hole.
It is just over 400 metres long, and the deepest of three lochs lying beside the A76.
It is unusual in that its northerly outflow is into the Glaisnock Water which flow into the Lugar Water and finally emptying into the Firth of Clyde.
The southerly outflow runs into the River Nith and then into the Solway Firth.
