URPoint Details
Set among farmland and woods, the village has a large, crescent shaped pond complete with geese and backed by the war memorial, set high on its plinth, reflects in the water. The road then curves right around the pond, past a massive wood and iron pump up to the church on the hill, with some very pretty black-and-white cottages.
The church dates from the 13th century and built on the site of an earlier church, was rebuilt in the 19th century and is a powerful building of square sandstone blocks. A monument in the church commemorates the instructors and pupils who were killed at the RAF flying school at Beverley between 1917 and 1918. Also in the church is a bust of John Wesley (1703-1791() carved from an elm tree on the green where he preached.
