Situated on top of a hill the views across the countryside are magnificent. The village has been around since 1196 and still retains charm and some lovely cottages, farms and large houses.
The hilltop of the village was almost certainly a fortified earthwork of ancient peoples, a good signalling post and a lookout for the old Icknield Way.
Billendon, as it was known then, was first mentioned in written history in 1196 a hamlet, part of the manor of Leighton. A family by the name of de Billendon lived here and owned property from the Middle Ages until the 16th century,
